Obama Goes Off The Teleprompter

Jennifer Rubin:

“The mainstream media is slowly waking up to the fact that Obama is a bore. No, really. He’s long since stopped saying anything new or interesting, and he talks constantly, at great length. So when he went into a mind-numbing filibuster to a perfectly reasonable question from a woman at a Q&A session in Charlotte as to whether it was smart to throw a load of new taxes into health-care “reform,” not even the Washington Post’s Anne Kornblut could conceal her — and the audience’s — disdain for the Condescender in Chief:”

He then spent the next 17 minutes and 12 seconds lulling the crowd into a daze.

Halfway through, an audience member on the riser yawned.

“And, of course, he never answered the lady’s question. Why is it we are raising taxes for those making less than $200,000? Why are we raising $52.3 billion in new taxes over 10 years? Obama has no response, or no effective one, to these queries; so he vamps and bloviates, as he did in the health-care summit when confronted with troublesome facts to which he had no adequate response.”

“Just as he failed to keep the attention of the Charlotte crowd, he’s long since lost the American people who now tune him out. Eloquent? Hardly. Persuasive? Not in the least, as evidenced by multiple polls showing that a large majority of Americans aren’t buying his health-care arguments.”

“Unfortunately for Obama, he may discover that once the president has lost the interest and trust of the voters, it’s hard to get these precious commodities back.”

Hope and Change!

Newsbusters:

“How phony is Barack Obama? PBS Washington Week host Gwen Ifill reviewed New Yorker editor David Remnick's new Obama book The Bridge in the Washington Post Outlook section Sunday, and she kept finding Obama is a Slick Barry, a "shape shifter." Obama even admitted to rhetoric what should be obvious -- how he changes "dialects" depending on the audience he's talking to.”

Reason:

“The president, who promised in both word and style to usher in a “new era” of Washington “responsibility,” routinely says things that aren’t true and supports initiatives that break campaign promises. When called on it, he mostly keeps digging. And when obliged to explain why American voters are turning so sharply away from his party and his policies, Obama pins the blame not on his own deviations from verity but on his failure to “explain” things “more clearly to the American people.””

Wonkette:

“Barack Obama is a loser/nerd who lectures people out of arrogance. There once was a time when presidents “explained” things to Americans. But simply “explaining” is not elitist enough for elitist Starbucks liberals like Barack Obama of liberal Chicago. He lectures people because he is an asshole who thinks Real Americans are stupid. When people ask him questions and he responds with policy details, he is just bragging about how smart he is, in the form of a lecture. And today he lectured a lady for 500 years about his beloved taxes, which didn’t even exist in this country until Nancy Pelosi made people vote for an abortion bill two weeks ago.”

Huge 25% tax hike for small businesses kills New York jobs

“America's jobs growth engine is being choked to death.”

“A record 25 percent increase in the taxes against US small businesses -- from costs associated with new health care law, to an increased Medicare tax, increased capital gains taxes and higher state and city taxes -- is repealing any ability of these entrepreneurs to add jobs to their payroll.”

“And the numbers for New York's small- to medium-sized business are just as harrowing.”

“By one estimate, the effective tax rate on the 26 million small businesses across the country -- which in the past have accounted for more than half of the job growth in the US -- has jumped to 50 percent from 40 percent, sucking valuable cash from the businesses.”
Is a national identity card the key to immigration reform?

Time:

Could a national identity card help resolve the heated immigration-reform divide?

Two Senators, New York Democrat Chuck Schumer and South Carolina Republican Lindsey Graham, certainly seem to think so. They recently presented an immigration-bill blueprint to President Barack Obama that includes a proposal to issue a biometric ID card - one that would contain physical data such as fingerprints or retinal scans - to all working Americans. The "enhanced Social Security card" is being touted as a way to curb illegal immigration by giving employers the power to quickly and accurately determine who is eligible to work.

The premise of using a biometric employment card (which would most likely contain fingerprint data) to stop illegal immigrants from working requires that all 150 million–plus American workers, not just immigrants, have one.

Winston, are you paying attention? Big Brother wants to brand you and track your every move!

W$J:

So what exactly happened when the chairman of the Republican National Committee met with immigration activists Wednesday? According to a news release put out by the activists, he said he would try and recruit Republican support for comprehensive immigration legislation.

The RNC says he made no such commitment. The immigration activist who led the meeting said he did, but then backpedaled after being signaled by a staffer that he may have gone too far.

Everyone agrees that Michael Steele, RNC chairman, met with a group of activists from the Fair Immigration Reform Movement. Afterwards, FIRM put out a statement implying that Steele was firmly in their camp. The statement said that the activists “walked away with a commitment from Steele to work with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.) and the party’s leadership to enlist another Republican senator’s support for comprehensive and bipartisan immigration reform.”
Border violence threatens Americans

The killings last month in the Mexican border town of Ciudad Juarez of two U.S. citizens, including an employee at the city's U.S. Consulate, along with the slaying of an Arizona rancher, have fueled concerns among U.S. officials that Americans are becoming fair game for Mexican drug gangs seeking control of smuggling routes into the United States.

For more than two years, U.S. intelligence and law enforcement officials have been warning that the dramatic rise in violence along the southwestern border could eventually target U.S. citizens and spread into this country. The violence posed what the officials called a "serious threat" to law enforcement officers, first responders and residents along the 1,951-mile border.

A day before the March 13 Juarez killings, Mr. Perry unsuccessfully sought help from Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to use unmanned Predator drone aircraft and 1,000 additional soldiers for missions on the Mexican border. He said there was a disparity in the amount of federal resources allotted to Texas for border security.

For years I have been posting about gang wars, border violence, and rape trees. Now it has gotten so bad Mexicans are requesting asylum.

Fox News:

Texas Town on High Alert as Mexican Town Across Border Braces for Cartel Gun Battle

“Residents of a small Mexican border town under siege by at least one of the country’s most notorious drug cartels are fleeing into a tiny Texas community, which is on high alert and preparing for a surge of illegal immigrants should a street battle break out with another cartel – or if gunmen begin carrying out a threat to start killing the town’s children.”

“At least 30 residents of El Porvenir, located about four miles from the Texas border town of Fort Hancock, have crossed into the U.S. and asked for political asylum, telling authorities that they fear for their lives. Fort Hancock officials tell FoxNews.com that they consider the situation serious.”

“A former law enforcement officer who lives in Fort Hancock and asked not to be named said the siege of El Porvenir is important because the town straddles one of the oldest, least defended smuggling routes on the Mexican border.”

Governor Perry said is his last re-election campaign he was going to secure the Border. Remember the campaign ads?
Texas Taxpayers across the state are paying to educate these Illegals because of Robin Hood. And did you notice that Fox News missed all this?

“While the problem has been seething for some time, it has finally gotten attention from both Washington and Austin. Last week Texas Gov. Rick Perry ordered a multiagency task force to the area. Rep. Kay Granger, the area congresswoman, pushed through the sale of three helicopters to the Mexican government to monitor the area. And the local sheriff has shifted patrols to the area in the hopes of stemming any violence that might spread across the border.”

Like that is going to work! Increased Sheriff patrols! His Deputies are out gunned and out manned!
More ObamaCare Fallout

Washington Times:

Supreme Court may weigh coverage mandate

“The same Supreme Court justices whom President Obama blasted during his State of the Union address this year may ultimately decide the fate of his crowning achievement as more than a dozen states have called on the courts to strike down the health insurance mandate of Democrats' health care overhaul - a move that would threaten the entire law.”

“Two major constitutional challenges have been levied against the new law, one by the state of Virginia, which enacted a law exempting its citizens from the federal health insurance mandate, and another by Florida and 12 other states. Legal scholars are divided on the merits of the cases, and even Congress - through its research service and its budget scorekeeper - has said it's an open question whether the provision could pass constitutional muster.”

Hot Air:

AP: Say, guess what we just found in ObamaCare!

“Congress passed the bill without knowing what was in it. Barack Obama signed it without reading it. Now it looks as though the Associated Press reported on ObamaCare without comprehending its content. Readers will have to scroll far down to discover that the elimination of a key tax break that kept retirees on company prescription-medication plans will mean dumping millions of seniors onto Medicare — and that the AP ignored it until now.”

“Over the past year, I’ve repeatedly warned about the dangers of static tax analysis. That process considers changes in tax policy without considering its impact on behavior.”

“The Democrats in Congress argued that they would gain $5.4 billion in revenue by eliminating the tax break enacted in the 2003 Medicare Part D program as an incentive for businesses to keep their retirees out of the Medicare system. Instead, they have given businesses a reason to dump their retirees out of the private networks and into the Part D system now. Not only will the expected tax revenues never appear, but now we will have to spend a lot more money covering those prescriptions out of public funds.”

“For months, businesses have warned about the problem, and for months, Democrats have claimed this clause as a $5.4 billion revenue source. One might think that the media would be interested in puncturing some bad assumptions. Apparently not.”

Dr. Zero:

“Even discounting the sewer system of underhanded deals and bribes needed to push ObamaCare through Congress, distorting it beyond any semblance of a carefully-designed plan, it’s foolish to accept it as a “solution” to health care “problems.” No government program is a solution to anything.”

“When Barack Obama tries to convince you to accept a government takeover of the health-care industry, he is making a promise he won’t be around to keep. ObamaCare’s job-killing taxes are front-loaded, but in order to fool the Congressional Budget Office into giving it a respectable deficit score, its benefits are delayed for years. Even if Obama wins re-election, he would complete his second term long before the program was completely phased in… and no external authority exists to compel either Obama, or his successors, to honor the promises he’s been making.”

“Once the government controls the health-care industry, there is nothing to prevent Democrats from paying for any service their constituents demand. A future law funding abortion can easily be passed, or maybe even “deemed” into existence. Abortion advocates can use lawsuits to squeeze funding out of the government. Control of the health-insurance industry will give the government massive leverage to erode determined public resistance against any steps it wishes to take.”

“Think about the evolution of ObamaCare health insurance into single-payer socialized medicine, something Obama and the Democrats quietly promise to left-wing audiences. The government will have every incentive to press for this transformation, and arrange it by pushing private competitors out of the market, then presenting single-payer government health care as tomorrow’s “solution” to the problem they’re working to create today. There is nothing to stop them from doing this.”

“The only guarantee you have that ObamaCare will provide the promised benefits, and remain within its boundaries, is the trust you place in the word of Barack Obama and his party… and your faith in future politicians who have yet to be elected.”

“There is no reason to trust an administration that places billions of dollars into the hands of unaccountable “czars,” including the odd Communist. Only a fool would believe the endless string of lies and deception from this President will magically transform into honesty and fidelity, after his angry demands for more power are fulfilled. A party that openly plans to subvert what little power remains in the tattered Constitution will not become more lawful after it seizes control of an entire industry. It would be idiotic to believe that a government whose economic projections have never come close to reality can suddenly predict the costs of the most enormous program it has ever produced.”

“It would be a horrible mistake to accept a deal with the creators of history’s most staggering natonal debt, based on assurances they will place your interests ahead of theirs, for decades to come. As Darth Vader memorably explained to Lando Calrissian, the State can always alter the terms of the deal, and your only recourse will be praying they don’t alter it any further.”

Washington Times:

Obamacare bait & switch

“The health care bill that President Obama signed last week bears little resemblance to the reform package he once touted from the campaign trail.”

“With the final legislative product in hand, it's worth evaluating how it compares to the promises Mr. Obama made to voters regarding the plan's cost, its features and the reform process itself. The difference between then and now couldn't be more stark.”

“Shulman’s spokesman later said he employs an accountant to prepare his tax filings, as does about 60 percent of the country who shell out hundreds or even thousands of dollars each for such services.”

“The IRS says, essentially, don’t blame us, blame Congress.”

Congressman John Lewis said call the IRS! I’m not making this up. Does he pay a CPA to do his Taxes? Has he ever read the Tax Code?

“Lewis’s suggestions is for people who are having a hard time with the forms go to the IRS for help. “Get on the telephone, call an IRS service center or go visit a service center … and have them walk through their filing,” which, he noted, the IRS does for free.”

That’s one of the absurd things I’ve ever heard. There are more words in the Tax Code than the Bible. So call the IRS Bureaucrat who might or might not be an expert. ““In truth, a lot of people like this concept of being taxed on what they use,” said Bill Farmer, a Republican state representative in Kentucky, who has suggested a tax on services if it was wed to the demise of the state’s income tax.”

And that my friends is the problem with the GOP. People like being Taxed! Farmer must be a RINO! And how fast will Tea Party Advocates have these Taxes repealed!

Glenn Reynolds:

“HEY, WAIT, I THOUGHT POLITICIANS ALWAYS EXEMPTED THEMSELVES: A tax on clowns.”

JammieWearingFool:

“Maybe these clowns ought to just cut spending, particularly on the bloated staffs of government employees and political operatives.”

Washington Post:

Bag tax raises $150,000, but far fewer bags used

“The tax, one of the first of its kind in the nation, is designed to change consumer behavior and limit pollution in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Under regulations created by the D.C. Department of the Environment, bakeries, delicatessens, grocery stores, pharmacies and convenience stores that sell food, as well as restaurants and street vendors, liquor stores and "any business that sells food items," has to charge the tax on paper or plastic bags.”

“A Washington Post poll conducted in January found that District residents were almost evenly split on whether they supported the tax, with 46 percent supporting it and 49 percent opposed to it. Support for the bag tax was highest in Northwest Washington, where about six in 10 residents supported it.”

“District officials had estimated that the tax would generate about $10 million during the next four years for environmental initiatives.”

“But in January, the tax only generated $149,432, suggesting that the bag tax might fall short of revenue projections.”

Wonkette:

“PLASTIC BAG TAX IS INSANELY EFFECTIVE: THIS ONE IS FOR D.C. PEOPLE, as well as behavioral economists, who surely make up the rest of you: our beloved new five-cent plastic bag tax decreased plastic bag usage from 22.5 million to 3.3 million in the first month alone. Washington D.C. is now sparkly clean!”

Listen Up Winston!

I got a letter in the mail from the U.S. Census Bureau earlier this month informing me I was a lucky winner. I had real reservations about filling it out. I loved the propaganda about getting your fair share of the loot for highways, schools, and other Government giveaways. My first thought was to mail directly back to Robert Groves, but I ignored it until the actual form came.

There was an ominous warning on the outside of the oversized envelope that showed up in my mailbox:

YOUR RESPONSE IS REQUIRED BY LAW

I ignored it and threw it on the table. A few hours later the Local TV News reported that you are required by law to fill it out. Knowing how biased and misinformed the media is I went to the Net. I found a CNET story where a Taxpayer in Rhode Island was charged with a misdemeanor for not answering some of the questions. And the Judge sided with the Government! But according to the author there were more surprises:

“The standard 2010 Census form, be sent to virtually every American household, asks about sex, race, age, phone number, and address. A subset of Americans also will receive a 14-page form (PDF) that is sent out every year and is much more intrusive: it asks about relationships, rent and mortgage costs, the value of the home, languages spoken at home, "emotional condition," job absences, and sources of income. Anyone not answering can be fined.”

“Even in the census-skeptic movement, there seems to be general agreement that asking each American household to report how many people live there is both reasonable and constitutional. The concerns arise from the more detailed questions found both on the short form and the long form, now called the American Community Survey.”

“And conservatives including Ron Paul, the former Republican presidential candidate, say questions like race and homeownership have no basis in the U.S. Constitution; a YouTube video making those arguments has received 1.7 million views since it was posted last month.”

After some more research I’m pretty sure The Constitution requires me to respond. Not being a Constitutional Law Expert and wanting to avoid more Government contact I decided to read the thing. I always thought the purpose of the Census is to count the population. It looks like it has turned into a racket so the Politicians can gerrymander safe districts to redistribute the tax dollars they stole for hard working Americans. We all understand that. But why does Big Brother need to know if I own or rent? Is this what the Founding Fathers intended? And are Illegal Aliens considered legal persons?

I thought about it some more. Decided to fill it out but with grave reservations. I thought about answering only one question. The Number of people living in the household. But I really didn’t want a Census Worker knocking on my door, so I filled in ALL the questions and dropped the form in the mail. According to Lew Rockwell it is being tracked electronically:

“The 2010 Census forms arrive this week at 120 million addresses across the country. Each piece of Census mail comes with a unique barcode that lets the U.S. Postal Service and the bureau track individual letters as they travel to and from the bureau. Each time a letter zips through sorting equipment – typically five times between the initial mailing and delivery – it generates data that are fed into a computer system that lets the bureau monitor its progress.”

“The close monitoring of the mail is giving privacy advocates and others pause. "I would certainly agree it's more invasive of people's privacy," said Rep. Ron Paul, a Texas Republican, who has opposed the Census because it goes beyond a simple headcount, asking residents 10 questions, including names, ages, race and sex. "It's the environment we live in; the government knows every single thing. It just means there is more pressure, and more likelihood, that you are going to be fined by the government." Rep. Paul was the sole "no" vote on a House resolution this month to encourage participation in the 2010 Census.”

Well, Winston, I guess those does mean Big Brother is tracking my ever move.

Update: Mr. Groves sent me a post card reminding me of the importance to respond to the Census the day after I mailed the form in! Big Brother is really on his game! That was humor for those of you in College Station and Rio Linda. The post card was a pre-planned mailer. Don’t panic Winston. No camera in the bedroom yet!

Good Morning Taxpayers! Sorry for the late post. Long weekend.

New York Post:

Obamacare wins: Now the pain begins

Savage:

8 million uninsured in California to get free Obamacare

Lew Rockwell:

Retire in Poverty

The Crash of 2010 Is Looming
The stimulus game will run out and then it happens, says Gerald Celente.

Washington Examiner:

Dems likely didn’t read the bill before passing and signing it

Cal Thomas:

“Total U.S. debt has soared to an all-time high of 370 percent of yearly economic output. That far exceeds its peak of 300 percent during the Great Depression.”

“Jobs will be lost because of this bill. Already, Caterpiller Company is laying-off workers because it estimates the health care bill will cost the company $100 million.”

The Future Speaks:

“Everyone gets a trophy, even if you are the loser in 44th place. It’s the mentality of our generation; it’s wired into our brains. And the indoctrination we continue to receive in school. You can even find it in the recent health care “reform” bill; “kids” can now stay on their parents plans until they are 26 years old. Funny how they are independent enough to get abortions without parents permission around 13 years, yet just can’t make it on their own around 26.”

Glenn Reynolds:

“STIMULUS! Existing home sales fall for third straight month raising worries about housing recovery.”

“HE’LL BE LUCKY IF IT GOES THAT WELL: Healthcare is Obama’s Iraq. I’ve heard a number of people make this argument, but the Iraq war got bipartisan approval with lots of Democrats supporting it, and it was far more popular than healthcare is.”

“SHOCKER: Investors Trust Blogs More Than they Trust Their Brokers. Two thoughts: (1) If you saw my 401(k) you’d know better than to take my advice on the markets; and (2) This is probably mostly a reflection of how little people trust brokers, rather than how much they trust bloggers.”

“SHOCKER: Arne Duncan manipulated school lists to favor powerful. “Chicago Breaking News reported late last night that former Chicago schools chief and current Secretary of Education Arne Duncan manipulated a system to favor powerful political allies by placing their children in the schools of their choice. The discovery of a list, the existence of which had been long denied by the city, and its composition of mainly high-powered political figures calls into question the appeals system used to reconsider applications that had been denied by the top Chicago-area schools.” Prediction: There’ll be special “lists” for powerful people who need kidney transplants, too.”

Rush:

“Starting today, the best health care system in the world is history.”

"Is there anybody who now doubts what I meant when I said, 'I hope he fails'?"

“The great majority of Americans are middle class, and this health care bill is the first giant step toward making them dependent on the federal government for their needs.”

“The liberal media is celebrating this great victory. What great victory? Over who? Us! The American people! These people on the left attack us because they hate us.”

“Our enemy is now clearly defined. We know who they are: Anybody with a D beside their name. There's no moderate Democrat or pro-life Democrat.”

James Taranto:

“They’re eager to talk not about their great legislative and social achievement, but about how violent, racist and all-around crazy ObamaCare opponents are.”

Wonkette:

“Health care reform shocker: American Indians are not subject to the Hitlerous insurance mandate. Why does Barack Obama not want Indians vaccinated against smallpox?”

“We have a wiener: “Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-TX) has come forward and admitted that he was the one who yelled ‘baby killer’ during the House debate on the health care bill last night.” This schlub’s district went 72%-27% for McCain in 2008. So according to our Great American System Of Incentivization, this act of embarrassing incivility last night will probably fill his campaign coffers for life. Why’d he wait so long to take credit?”
